Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Senior Superintendent to oversee field operations for life science construction projects in the Bay Area. The Senior Superintendent will play a key leadership role, managing all aspects of on-site construction to ensure successful delivery of highly technical facilities such as laboratories, cleanrooms, and research centers. This position requires expertise in life science construction, a commitment to safety, and a proven ability to lead diverse project teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all on-site activities, from initial mobilization through project closeout, ensuring quality, safety, and adherence to project timelines and budgets.
- Develop and implement site logistics and phasing plans, specifically tailored to the unique requirements of life science facilities.
- Coordinate daily construction operations with subcontractors, suppliers, and project teams, resolving issues to keep the project on schedule.
- Enforce strict adherence to company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and industry-specific protocols for life science environments.
- Conduct regular safety briefings and inspections, ensuring a culture of safety excellence.
- Identify, report, and address potential hazards or risks on the job site promptly.
- Monitor construction progress to ensure compliance with life science standards, including high-performance HVAC systems, cleanroom environments, and laboratory-grade finishes.
- Conduct regular inspections of completed work to maintain quality and verify alignment with design specifications.
- Oversee commissioning and validation processes for critical systems, including MEP systems and cleanroom certification.
- Develop and manage detailed construction schedules to meet project milestones and deadlines.
- Proactively identify potential delays and implement solutions to mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with project managers to provide progress updates and maintain alignment with project goals.
- Supervise and mentor on-site personnel, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and consultants.
- Act as a liaison between the field team and project management, ensuring clear communication of priorities and objectives.
- Client and Stakeholder Interaction:
- Serve as the on-site representative for clients, addressing questions, concerns, and changes as needed.
- Maintain open and transparent communication with stakeholders to ensure satisfaction throughout the construction process.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field is a plus.
- Minimum of 10 years of construction experience, with 5+ years in a superintendent role overseeing life science projects.
- Expertise in life science construction, including laboratories, cleanrooms, and biotech facilities.
- Strong understanding of specialized systems, including MEP, HVAC, and environmental controls.
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid) and scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of Bay Area building codes, safety regulations, and permitting processes.
